History
of School - About Sacred Heart School of Nursing
Sacred Heart Hospital, Maqsudan, Jalandhar is a Christian
institution run and managed by the Jyothi Province of Sacred
Congregation, a registered religious and charitable trust.
It was established in 1985 to meet the long felt need of the
people of Jalandhar and surrounding districts for a multispeciality
hospital.

The underlying philosophy of Sacred Heart Hospital
is to give witness to the compassionate love of Lord Jesus
Christ through selfless and dedicated service to the sick
and suffering people irrespective of their caste, colour,
creed or their economic condition. No patient who sought medical
aid from Sacred Heart Hospital has ever been turned away because
he or she could not afford it. At the same, the hospital has
been keeping up with the latest in the modern medical technology
by introducing new equipments and adding new facilities. But
what made Sacred Heart Hospital a unique institution has been
its success in maintaining the highest standard of the medical
and nursing care it gives to its patients.
The Catholic Christian community of Punjab always wanted a
school of nursing to train their children to become qualified
nurses who would be imbued with the service mentality cultivated
by Sacred Heart Hospital. Though there was a total ban on
opening new nursing schools in Punjab, impressed by the quality
of service rendered by Sacred Heart Hospital, the administration
agreed to lift the ban in favour Sacred Heart Hospital and
permission was given to open Sacred Heart School of Nursing
in 1995. With twenty students, the school was formally blessed
and inaugurated by the Bishop of Jalandhar, His Excellency
Rt. Rev. Dr. Symphorian Keeprath. Right from its beginning,
Sacred School of Nursing has been trying to teach its students
the value of compassionate love and selfless service for the
welfare of the patient. It firmly believes that nursing is
a calling to carry out the compassionate healing ministry
as commanded by Lord Jesus Christ. Every patient expects the
nurse to soothe his or her pain and help in the healing process.
Sacred Heart School of Nursing fosters a holistic approach
to the healing ministry and has adopted, “Impart Holistic
Health Care to the Patients” as its motto.
Sacred Heart School of Nursing endeavours
to achieve its noble aim through the following objectives
that are being implemented during the training of the future
nurses.
- By imparting the knowledge of basic principles of the
techniques and methods used in nursing and making the students
understand the intricacies of nursing care.
- By developing skills and necessary aptitudes for planning
and implementing comprehensive nursing care.
- By training them to think and act independently and responsibly
as an individual, a nurse and a citizen.
- By teaching them to work as team members and nurturing
in them the spirit of co-operation with their fellow workers
and the hospital administration for the welfare of the patient
through the care of the sick, prevention of diseases and
promotion of community health.
Today Sacred Heart School of Nursing is a
premier institute in the field of training and attracts candidates
for admission not only from Punjab but also from other parts
of the country because of the high standard it maintains.
It is recognized by the Indian Council of Nursing and affiliated
to Punjab Nurses Registration Council for GNM Diploma Course.
